Prashar Lake, Mandi

Prashar Lake, also spelled Parashara Lake, is a natural in-island lake at an altitude of 2730 meters in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Parashar Lake is known for surrounding sloppy meadows, dense grass, and panoramic green views in the lap of the snow-capped Dhauladhar mountain range. Apart from being known for a near-circular floating island in the lake, a multistory temple is also dedicated to the rishi Parashara which stands beside the lake. Loosely, the diameter of the lake is about 300 meters.

The Prashar lake is named after legendary ancient Indian sage Parashara, the grandson of rishi Vashisth and the father of rishi Krishna Ved Vyasa, and the biological grandfather of Pandu and Dhritrashtra. According to the local legends, the rishi Parashar mediated on the banks of the lake. Strangely enough, the depth of the lake is still unknown.

Parashar Lake is a Holomictc lake with primary inflow through rainwater and primary outflow through evaporation.
