Vidyanand Sarek, a Himachali, is a Pahadi Litterateur (one who is studies and writes literature) and Folk Culture artist who is known for dedicating his life for preservation and promotion of Sirmauri (or Simuri) language which is on verge of extinction. For the same, in 2018, he was Rashtrapati Award by President Ram Nath Kovind. He was also awarded Padma Shri, the 4th highest civilian award of India, in the year 2022 for the same.
Shri Vidyanand hails from the Deothi Majhgaon village of the Rajgarh tehsil of the Sirmaur district. Born on 26 June 1941, Sarek gave services as a teacher in the Education Dept of Govt of Himachal Pradesh from year 1959 to 1976. In 1972, Sarek's collection of poems came out as "Chitti Chadar", "Hori Jubdi" and "Naalo Jhaalo Re Sur".
