The state of Himachal Pradesh is home to several universities. A university is an institute of higher education and/or research that awards academic degrees in the academic disciplines or study branches.
As of February 2022, Himachal Pradesh has five state universities, one central university, one law university, and several private universities. Geographically, most of the universities fall in the Solan district. Out of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh, seven districts have at least one university. Bilaspur, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kirnnaut, and Kullu have no university in their bounds. Himachal Pradesh University is the oldest established university (in 1971) and HP National Law University is the latest established university (in 2016) in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
