National Parks in Himachal Pradesh

There are a total of five national parks in Himachal Pradesh. Out of five, three national parks are in the Kullu district. A national park is a natural park that is marked and protected by the governments for the conservation of flora, fauna, vegetation, and wildlife.

The Great Himalayan National Park was established in the year 1984 and is spread over an area of 1171 km2. The park is a habitat of more than 375 fauna species and several flora species. In 2014, The said park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Great Himalayan National Park is spread over four valleys - Trithan Valley, Parvati Valley, Jiwa Nal Valley, and Sainj Valley.

Inderkilla National Park

The Inderkilla National Park was established in the year 2010 and is spread over an area of 104 km2. The area of the park is home to dense hilly terrain and is loved by adventure enthusiasts along with nature enthusiasts for its scenic view. It consists of more than 250 bird species.

Khirganga National Park

The Khirganga or Kheerganga National Park was established in the year 2010 and is spread over an area of 710 km2 at an altitude of 5500 meters. In the lap of the Parvati valley, the park gets its name Kheerganga because of the milky water present in the Parvati river. Kheerganga is a portmanteau of Kheer (a sweet dish made of rice and milk) and Ganga (the holy river Ganga).

Pin Valley National Park

The Pin Valley National Park is located in the Spiti Valley of the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Pin Valley National Park is part of the Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve of India which also includes Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, Chandrataal lake, and Sarchu (a place in Leh).

Simbalbara National Park

The Simbalbara National Park is located in the Paonta Valley of the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. In 1958, the Simbalbara Wildlife Sanctuary was created with 19.03 km² of protected area under it. In 2010, 8.88 km² were added to it and it was made a national park.
